Jah Life ran some sessions in the mid '80s at Channel 1 studio, with the then-resident Gifted Roots Band. None of the tracks from those sessions were ever released, until now! The aforementioned Flick Wilson tune came from those sessions, as do these. Three great vocal cuts on one very tough rhythm.

Three more killer shots from Delroy Wright's Live & Learn label. All three were released as 7"s only in Jamaica, and like many Live & Learn JA singles, had small pressings and then vanished for good. Like all our favorite Live & Learn stuff, these exemplify the awesome "live digital" sound of mid '80s reggae that we love so much, which was the order of the day at studios like Channel 1, Music Mountain and Dynamic Sounds circa 1984. "Super Powers" is one of our favorite rhythms of this era, with awesome keyboard sounds and Murvin's perfect falsetto vocals. "No Trouble This" is classic Don Carlos, with great synthesizer sounds and syndrums. Lastly, "Don't Stray" is a lesser known cut from Junior Reid during his classic and well-loved '80s period, but only because it's so tough to find. Reid was at the top of his game from '80 to '85 and this one is no exception.

Producer Danny Ffrench's DON 1 label only had a trio of releases, but all were stellar. One, the fantastic "Evil That You Do" by the male/female duo ROOTS is an undisputed classic, thankfully kept in-press for many years now, by Danny's collaborator and friend Clive Chin. All the music on the Don 1 label was recorded and mixed at the Chins' Randy's Studio 17 in the mid '70s, but none made too much of an impact at the time. But over the years collectors discovered these gems, and they became very sought after. We're proud to now make available the other two tunes on the Don 1 label. The Immortals' (note, NOT the same group who recorded for Augustus Pablo) "Babylon" is a killer slice of mid '70s roots, which was unfortunately pirated in very poor quality in recent years. Here now is a fully authorized reissue with excellent sound quality! Check out the wicked dub with wailing sirens! The other tune is the Episodes' "Blacker Than Black", a charming and youthful harmony tune with some great organ work. For us this tune really embodies the young and hopeful spirit of music-making in Kingston at the time...get in the studio and try a thing!

New and long awaited releases in the Jah Life reissue program. Al Campbell's "Collie Herb" was originally issued on Jah Life 12" in US & UK, and on Kaya 7" in JA. "World Crisis" was originally issued on 12" on the Reggae Sound label in NY. Killer ganja tune and reality tune, back to back. "Collie Herb" comes equipped with dub, while "World Crisis" is a deadly discomix. The Ras Michael & The Sons of Negus 12" features the long-desired Black Ark recorded & mixed tracks that were only ever issued on the very first pressing of the classic "Love Thy Neighbour" LP originally released on the Jah Life label. The LP was then issued again shortly thereafter on the Live & Learn label (which for those who don't know, belongs to Jah Life's brother Delroy Wright), but with these tracks omitted and replaced with others. Finally reissued in all their glory on a crisp 12", these are some of the deepest roots reggae & nyabinghi tunes ever made.

Bond Export kicks off our reissue program of Delroy Wright's Live & Learn label with three total heaters from the mid 1980's. Delroy's label released some of the finest reggae of the early-mid '80s, including a lot of really heavy stuff in the 'live digital' style we are known to favor. And while Delroy has done a great job of keeping his large catalog of LP's available in the past two decades, some of the fantastic singles he released have been woefully unavailable. So we're stepping in to bring the best of them back. First up is Winston Hussey's "Ghetto Man Problem", the title cut from one of his two LP's on Live & Learn. Only ever released on 45 in JA, backed of course by accompanying killer dub. Next up is a pair of wicked 12"s. First, the discomix of Junior Reid's "Chanting", the killer first version of the tune which he re-did shortly after with Black Uhuru as "Dread in the Mountain." This is one of Junior's best tunes, and that's saying a lot! "Chanting" is now backed with Little John's awesome cut "The More We Are Together", known to some as "Praising His Majesty." This was produced by Delroy along with his former spar Junjo Lawes, and was played on dubplate in the day by Jah Shaka. The rhythm was also used for the great "Hell a Go Pop" by Cultural Roots, produced by Junjo. Lastly for this batch, our other 12" is Barrington Levy's "Juggling Soldier", one of the great weedman tunes of all time and on one of our favorite heavy rhythms of the mid '80s. The A-side is a discomix, while the B-side is a full version side.

Two more shots from the vaults of Clive Chin and the Impact!/Randy's camp. First, one of the best female roots singers ever, Olive "Senya" Grant, or 'Ta-Teacher Love' as she was known on this release, doing 'Roots Man.' Produced at Randy's by Clive Chin & Family Man, and backed by the Wailers band, mid '70s roots hardly gets better than this. Backed with a killer dub called 'Mix Gone' credited to 'The Rebel Force', a name briefly used by Family Man at the time. Next, an interesting record, is the Wailers Band doing 'Higher Field Marshall' and 'No Parshall.' Family Man and Clive Chin were behind this one, which was released back in the day via Randy's only in tiny-quantity as a white label pre-release. Now, it's well known that Family Man, along with a Roland Drum Machine, created the rhythm then called 'Chim Cherie' which was later morphed into the now immortal 'Billy Jean' rhythm as employed by Shinehead for the African Love label. Well around the same time, Fams cut some other tunes using this same machine, including Keithus I's "Dreadlocks I" (available from DKR!), and this one, "Higher Field Marshall/No Parshall." For this heavy instrumental 2-sider, Fams blows melodica over the A-side and dubs out the B-side.

Our next batch of Jah Life reissues is another great one. Leroy Smart's "Warrior" is one of the best cuts we've heard on the often-versioned "Green Bay Killing" rhythm. This heavy version was released only on the "Jah Life Smashing Superstars" compilation LP back in the day, with the dub unreleased and run on dubplate only by Jah Life, Volcano, and some others. The anthemic plea for peace chorus of "I and I no warrior, I and I no tribalist, I and I nuh fire no gun" reminds us of the Enforcer's "Pay Them". On the flip side of "Warrior" is "Thief in the Night", Leroy's vocal on the rhythm well-known for Barrington Levy's "Shaolin Temple." This tune was previously only released on his Jah Life produced LP, "Too Much Grudgefulness." Along with the vocal there is a wicked Scientist dub of the rhythm, as previously released on the rare Jamaican issue of the Scientist "Big Showdown" LP on Jah Guidance. Next up is the Flick Wilson "School Days" album. This has long been one of our all-time favorite LP's through it's killer combination of super heavy Roots Radics rhythms, wild Scientist mixing, and the Flick's unique singing, often with falsetto. Never widely available and only ever released in NYC, it's now deservedly reissued. Lastly for this batch, a monster previously unreleased vocal & dub outing from Barry Brown, riding the "Shaolin Temple" rhythm. Again, this vocal and dub were run on dubplate back in the day by Jah Life's sound in NY and Junjo's Volcano sound in Jamaica, now released for the first time ever.

Clive Chin needs no introduction as a producer, a man with nuff classics in his catalog, and plenty big tunes rightfully available. But the Bond Export crew always comes with a list of tune that must come a road, and that list surely includes plenty from Clive. So here's our first batch of exclusive releases from the vaults of Clive Chin, straight from master tape. Freddie McKay's "Won't Get Away" is the next cut to Dennis Brown's immortal "Foot of the Mountain", produced by Clive & his friend Eddie Wong for Eddie's Downtown label. Clive reissued this tune 10+ years ago and it's been sadly long unavailable since, making it's grand return now, alongside several other great Freddie McKay tunes available from DKR & Bond Export. Next and similarly, Peter Broggs' "Vampire" aka "Vank Out" was also reissued some years back, but was available all too briefly, gone in the blink of an eye. Produced by original Randy's Record Mart man, the late Morris "CB" Edwards for his Quarter Mile label, this is Brogg's first ever tune, originally released under his right name of Henry James. High caliber '70s roots, finally available again. Last but certainly not least for this batch, "Wolf in Sheep Clothing" by the Upright Foundation. This was a short-lived group featuring two-thirds of the Gaylads, and this phenomenal piece of Burning Spear-esque roots was produced by Clive for his Wisdom Sounds label in the mid '70s. Reissued for the first time here, this tune is totally infectious and should go straight into the '70s roots harmony classics canon.

Pressed exclusively for Bond Export, directly from master tape, one of the best early roots tunes, from Harry Mudie's Afro label. N. Elliott and Noel Bailey's "People Let Love Shine" was released in 1972, and its somber but positive tone and killer organ sound make it a masterpiece of early roots. This tune is also commonly known by the name "Morning Star", as it was released in Jamaica with this title on the Globe imprint. Here backed with "Too Much" by the Jet Sets, a wicked instrumental on a similar rhythm.
